Current Music Favourites

Charlemagne – Blossoms Blossoms have been described as a mix between “an early Pink Floyd and Arctic Monkeys”, and the indie pop anthem ‘Charlemagne’ has the cathartic, singalong appeal of early tunes by both of these artists. The simple yet evocative vocals of lead singer Tom Ogden are complemented by the poppy beat, which is almost reminiscent of 80s synthpop. The song opens with quite a serious-sounding verse, with rich lyricism that conjures up images of ancient Frankish kings. However the upbeat chorus, characterised by the beautiful lyrics, “And the river always flows tears of gold/ Left me cold do you feel the same my Charlemagne?”, will instantly get you moving. For me, Blossoms have got the formula right for the perfect indie track with ‘Charlemagne’, and if you enjoy this song, I’d definitely recommend checking out ‘Getaway’ and the other tracks off their self-titled debut album. Pilgrims – Johnny Lloyd I was first introduced to Johnny Lloyd’s work as a solo a...

Autumnal Beauty Favourites

Image
It is the first day of November as I am writing this and I felt it was the perfect time to share some beauty products that I have enjoyed using in the recent weeks... NYX Lip Cream in Cairo The first product that I have enjoyed using recently is the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in the shade Cairo. Being a lip cream, the colour goes on smoothly but has a matte finish so it appears that you're wearing a lipstick rather than a creamy product. The shade Cairo is a gorgeous brown colour which is the perfect nude for autumn, and is neutral enough for everyday wear. I haven't tried any of the other colours in the range, although there is a huge selection if Cairo doesn't take your fancy which include reds, pinks, oranges and even blues! The one slight issue that I have with the lip cream is that it can be quite drying and becomes quite patchy after a few hours of wear. This can be resolved by reapplying, although if you're looking for something very...

A Guide to Portobello Road

Image
London is well known for its plethora of wonderful markets and, having lived here my whole life, I've been able to visit many of them. Surprisingly, one place I have never been is Portobello Road, the world's largest antiques market, so my family recently decided to pop over to Notting Hill in order to explore one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city and see what we had been missing out on... Arriving by tube at Notting Hill Gate, we were greeted by the sight of the iconic colourful houses that the area is known for. Once on Portobello Road there are a range of stalls to check out that stretch on for what feels like a never-ending distance, as well as a whole host of quirky shops that line the street. Saturday is the busiest day to go because it's when the market is at its biggest, although we went on a Friday and still spent a good few hours browsing the goods on offer. My favourite aspect of the market was by far the variety of goods on offe...

An Introduction

Hello, and welcome to my blog! I intend to keep this introduction brief, but this is the basic information you need to know... My name is Rachel and I am an eighteen year old girl living in London. I've chosen to start this blog as a way of channelling my interests and opinions, as well as a way to develop my writing skills. I have enjoyed writing since I was a young child, and currently would like to pursue a career in journalism or some sort of communications based industry, so this is an exciting opportunity for me to do something I love. I intend to write about the various things that I am passionate about, from fashion and beauty to literature and topical issues, subjects which  I hope will interest you too. Obviously you'll get to know more about me as I continue to post, but for now, that's the basics. I hope you enjoy reading my blog in the future!
