Hot town, summer in the city

It may be a bit premature to be quoting Lovin' Spoonful lyrics, but the glimpse of sun that London has witnessed recently has made even me, the most ardent winter enthusiast, excited for summer. I was inspired to write this post after spending the day in Camden with my friend recently, and unbelievably not having to lug round my thickest winter coat with me after months of wrapping myself up excessively in layers before I left the door.

Camden is a great place to spend a sunny day, whether you're a tourist or a born and bred Londoner. There's a whole host of clothes stalls, vintage shops, antiques stores and street food on offer, so much so that it is easy to just spend hours getting lost in the labyrinthine paths of the market.
I had such a lovely day out, and it has made me even more excited for exams to be over and summer to arrive so I can hopefully plan more day trips in my wonderful city. I'm also planning a trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with my friends in August, and hopefully spending some time with my family before I head off to uni, so all in all it's gearing up to be a great summer.

The first Audrey Hepburn film I saw as a child was My Fair Lady , but it wasn't until my early teens that my obsession with her truly began. She was an immensely talented actress with impeccable style, but the thing I admire most about her is the fact that she won a legion of fans at a time when Hollywood was obsessed with glamorous peroxide blondes like Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield. Quirky, minimalistic, and with a boyish figure, she quickly became a muse to the designer Hubert de Givenchy as he was just starting his fashion house. With thick brows, flawless skin and cat eye liner, her look was timeless, so it's no surprise that she is regarded as a style icon to so many. Red lip, classic

I’ve always admired people who can pull off a red lip. I’m not sure if my aversion to bright colours is down to a dislike of drawing too much attention to myself or a general preference for more natural makeup, but I decided to challenge myself this festive season and try out a red shade in the form of one of Rimmel’s ‘The Only 1’ matte lipsticks, in a shade called ‘Take the Stage’. On first inspection there were definitely a couple of things that I didn’t love about the product. Aesthetically, I don’t particularly like its packaging, which is clunky and plastic. It certainly doesn’t look as nice as Rimmel’s other lipstick range by Kate Moss which is so much slicker and luxurious-looking in comparison. Additionally, the scent is a bit of a love-it-or-hate-it one, and so if like me you’re not too keen on overly fruity and fragrant beauty products then you may find this a bit overpowering.
